Agricultural electrical services

Modesto is located in the heart of the central valley of California. According to the USDA, California is the largest producer of food products when compared to the other 49 states. It is followed by Iowa, and then Nebraska.

California produces more than 400 different food commodities. More than 1/3rd of the nation’s vegetables and 2/3rd’s of all its nuts and fruits are grown right here in California. In 2018, according to the California Department of Agriculture, California alone produced over 13% of the nation’s total agricultural value, and exported over 20 billion dollar’s worth of agricultural products abroad.

Top agricultural commodities produced in California include:

  • Dairy (milk)
  • Grapes
  • Almonds
  • Strawberries
  • Cattle
  • Lettuce
  • Walnuts
  • Tomatoes
  • Pistachios
  • Broilers

Access Electric is pleased to provide quality electrical services for a wide variety of agricultural projects throughout the central valley. We have worked, and continue to work in many of the nation’s largest agricultural producer factories and also in many smaller independent farm producer locations.

Dairies

It is of vital importance to provide safe electrical services to dairy producers. The smallest amount of stray voltage can have a dramatic effect on milk production and can be fatal to cattle even in small amounts of current.

One of the most recurring problems we see on dairy’s is improper grounding. A ground wire should never normally carry electrical current. It is there to provide a low impedance path back to the source of electrical current and to tie all metal components together providing a equal potential between all metal components. It is this low impedance path back to the source, along with a properly installed grounding bonding jumper that allows enough current to flow during a ground fault to allow a breaker to trip or a fuse to blow. If the grounding is not done properly,

electrical current can flow at current levels that are not large enough to trip a breaker, but more than large enough to be lethal to people and animals. Even in the smallest amounts this current can reduce milk production considerably.

There are several steps that can be taken to test for and isolate the sources of stray voltage. If you think you are having a problem with stray voltage, or If your milk production is not what it should be, or used to be, then give us a call. We will inspect the electrical system and provide recommendations to eliminate the sources of any stray voltage happening on your dairy.

Almond and Walnut Producers

Almond and walnut production in the Central valley of Californina has exploded in growth over the last 20 years. Many small producers have sprung up all over the valley. Access Electric has had the privilege of working with and for several fine producers in the area. We have provided services from small maintenance related service calls, to the complete plant electrical service from the ground up. We have also provided PLC and HMI services for plant wide control.

One of the major benefits of controlling your Almond hulling plant from a PLC is that you can virtually eliminate all the sequential rewiring that happens whenever you change or add motors to the operation of your facility. Starters, or VFD’s can be added, deleted, or re-sequenced without having to rewire your motor control centers. If you add starters, these can be added in any location in your panel and the sequential operation can be changed in the logic of the PLC. This keeps your panels maintained and clean for years to come and helps in trouble shooting to keep down time to a minimum.

If you would like to automate your Almond or Walnut hulling and shelling operation with the used of PLC’s and HMI’s, then give us a call and we will be happy to assist you in the most cost-effective way to do so.
